Milton Frank Stadium

Originally constructed in 1964, the 10,000 seat Milton Frank Stadium is Huntsville City Schools’ primary athletic facility serving 6 different high schools. Due to its age and condition, the facility required complete code and fixture compliance improvements for the restrooms and locker rooms, as well as new recognizable Home and Visitor entrances to the stadium. The program required the new 11,498 square foot facility improvements to be split between the Home and Visitor sides of the field and under the existing stadium stands. Since the facility is used almost year-round, it was important to construct it with materials that would make it a low maintenance, yet durable facility to last for another 50 years. The simple one-story mass was designed to limit conflict between the existing stadium structure. Colored concrete masonry units were used to create architectural patterns along the facade that would begin to tie the facility’s various architectural elements together.
