Matheny Goldmon Architects, established in 2006 in Huntsville, Alabama, provides architectural and interior design services for both private and public projects. Our portfolio includes commercial, educational, religious, industrial, and residential projects.

Whether a project requires the careful application of historic architectural precedents or a new and innovative vision, Matheny Goldmon Architects emphasizes sound design principles and creative processes throughout the course of a project. We regard our clients as vital members of our design team, and hold as our highest priority the successful response to the client’s wants, needs, and wishes. Furthermore, we believe that each of our projects should contribute to the civic pride of the communities in which they are located.

With three LEED AP professionals on staff, we are committed to advancing sustainable building design, construction, and operations in order to reduce long term costs and increase the life cycle of our building projects. If no certification is desired, we will certainly abide by the spirit of the principles of energy efficient design as defined by LEED, and deliver a facility which achieves the sustainable objectives.

Matheny Goldmon Architects strives to provide our clients with facilities which are durable, energy efficient, require relatively low maintenance over time, and are a beautiful contribution to the communities in which they are located. In order to provide buildings with long term life cycles, Matheny Goldmon Architects considers the following factors:

  • The design solution must allow for flexibility, so as the owner’s needs or systems evolve over time, the facility can accommodate any necessary renovations, or reconfigurations. Care must be taken to provide a facility which can be expanded or modified rather than raised and replaced.
  • The design must be sited and designed in order to effectively withstand the impact of weather and environment over time. Effectively limiting the impact of infiltration, sunlight, and moisture penetration can greatly increase the life cycle of a building.
  • The design must incorporate the collective wisdom of those who are charged with maintaining it. Building systems should be prescribed which meet with the municipality’s expectations for assuring timely and efficient service over time to keep the facility operational.
  • Durable material selections must be made which will resist long term deterioration and damage due to any number of causes ranging from pest infestation to landscape maintenance crews.
  • The design should provide a timeless architectural quality. This is a simple principle, but buildings which are attractive and exude permanence do not become unfashionable, and are thus replaced less often.
  • Proposed construction budgets must accurately project the costs associated with designing facilities with long term life cycles.

Matheny Goldmon Architects, along with our consultants, seeks cost effective means of addressing these goals. We recognize that projects can only be considered successful if they are responsive to their established budgets. We carefully assist in developing and implementing building programs and project budgets which accurately and effectively address the desired objectives. At various intervals throughout the drawing process, Matheny Goldmon Architects reviews our progress to assure budgetary objectives remain on target. During construction, we act swiftly to address unforeseen circumstances which could impact the project cost, and seek practical solutions which result in zero cost changes to the owner when possible.

Our greatest rewards for our team’s efforts at the completion of any project are a satisfied owner, and users whose lives are enriched by the environments we help to provide. We seek to create special places, appropriately knit within their context and of exceptional quality relative to their purpose and maintenance over time. Matheny Goldmon Architects looks forward to the opportunity to introduce you to our creative and resourceful team, and to discuss how we can assist you with your design needs.
