Serving as a catalyst for urban renewal in west Huntsville, this adaptive re-use development is currently home to two major craft breweries – Yellowhammer Brewery and Straight to Ale – along with Bubba’s Silver Spoon Catering, Lone Goose Saloon, and a wide range of restaurants, retail shops, and special event venues. Originally opened in 1952 as S.R. Butler High School, the campus was later re-purposed as Roy L. Stone Middle School before its decommissioning in 2009. Five years later it opened its doors again, this time, to the general public as the new hot spot in town. In conjunction with the redevelopment, the city of Huntsville utilized four acres of the nearly thirteen-acre site for a large performance lawn, food truck rally area, and public parking in the heart of the campus.  The lawn links the elements of the newly established entertainment district, where patrons can roam freely between brewpubs while enjoying live music and recreational activities.
