H. Paul Matheny, AIA, Principal of Matheny Goldmon Architects has been invited to serve as one of four National Jurors for the Brick Industry Association’s 2011 Brick in Architecture Awards Competition. As a previous Best in Class Award Winner, Mr. Matheny will review and rate entry submissions from various project types in locations throughout the United States, and the selected winners will be featured in the December 2011 issue of Architect magazine.

Matheny Goldmon Architects received the North Alabama AIA Chapter’s “Merit Award”, for “The Craftsman House”, Huntsville, Alabama. It was selected by a jury of Architects from the North Indiana Chapter of AIA, on the campus of Notre Dame University.
Jury Comments:
“The exterior was finely handled.”
“This residence stood out because of its detail.”
“The details were carried out through every level.”
“The addition is a nice compliment to the existing house.”

Matheny Goldmon Architects received the National “Best in Class” award in the Brick Industry Association’s 2009 “Brick in Architecture” competition, in the Municipal / Government / Civic design category, for Fire Station No. 1 / West Police Precinct.
Previously, Matheny Goldmon Architects had been awarded the “President’s Award” for the state of Alabama, in the Brick Industry Association’s 2008 “Brick in Architecture” competition, for Fire Station No. 1 / West Police Precinct. Paul Matheny accepted the award at the 2008 AIA Alabama Design Awards banquet, in Birmingham, held on January 29, 2009. As a result of receiving this award, the Brick Industry made a $1000 scholarship donation in the name of Matheny Goldmon Architects, to be given to the Architecture School of their choice. They chose Mississippi State University.
November 12th, 2009: Matheny Goldmon Architects received the North Alabama AIA Chapter’s “Merit Award”, for Fire Station No. 1 / West Police Precinct. It was selected by a jury of Architects from the Charleston, SC area.
Jury Comments:
“This facility is truly an asset to the community and epitomizes community pride.”
“The massing, proportions and detailing, influenced by H.H. Richardson are not simply lifted from this building type but were tweaked to produce a familiar but unique solution. In addition, the difficult program, uses and responsibilities of the structure were all expertly solved.”
Also in 2009, Fire Station No. 1 / West Police Precinct was recognized as “Notable” in the “Station Style” design awards, held by Fire Chief Magazine, in the category of “Shared Facilities”.
Abby T. Owen, of Matheny Goldmon Architects has successfully completed the NCIDQ exam (National Council for Interior Design Qualification. She joined Matheny Goldmon Architects in 2006.
Marc Goldmon, of Matheny Goldmon Architects, in Huntsville, has achieved professional accreditation in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) from US Green Building Council. He is a principal and founding partner of Matheny Goldmon Architects.
Corey Stricklen, of Matheny Goldmon Architects, in Huntsville, has achieved professional accreditation in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) from US Green Building Council. Corey joined Matheny Goldmon Architects in January of 2007.
Benjamin White, of Matheny Goldmon Architects, in Huntsville, has achieved professional accreditation in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) from US Green Building Council. Ben joined Matheny Goldmon Architects in August of 2007.

Abby T. Owen, of Matheny Goldmon Architects was the First Place award recipient, in the hospitality category, in the 2008-2009 ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) Alabama “Design Excellence” competition for “Mezza Luna”, a restaurant designed by Matheny Goldmon Architects, and completed in 2008.
