Located in downtown Huntsville, The TVA Service Center building was originally built by Alabama Power circa 1930. The 2 story- 12,000 square foot- depression era art deco building has been in continuous operation by several businesses.
In 2009, Matheny Goldmon Architects renovated approximately 3,000 square feet of the second floor for their offices. After initial investigations, it was apparent that many of the original historic features were present under several layers of inappropriate interior renovations. There was a direct effort to restore and salvage as many of the historic elements as possible, and new elements were designed to stand out as “modern” so they would not conflict with the historic fabric of the building. In addition, several other features were rebuilt to achieve modern building code requirements, including new exit corridors, stairwells, electrical services, and a lobby entrance.
